New York

New York was once a busy area of industry most probably named after the New York Tavern which was a popular alehouse: like so many alehouses it no longer exists. All that remains of the old days is the part of the Guest & Chrimes Building. The frontage of this is listed and I read some long ago plans to incorporate it into a planned redevelopment. It was up for sale last time I passed that way.

The site has now been redeveloped as the new council offices, Riverside House, and the new Rotherham United ground, New York Stadium, together with their car parks. The Guest & Chrimes offices were up for sale but other plans being considered were to knock them down entirely.
