Fishing in the form of angling with a rod and line, is a very popular pastime in Rotherham. Fishing facilities exist in the Country Parks - Ravenfield, Rother Valley, Thrybergh and Ulley. You can also fish on the Rivers Don and Rother and canals around here but the rights are usually owned by some club or other, though I believe you can buy day tickets for some of them. Fishing in the Fitzwilliam Canal, administered by Rotherham Borough Council Amenities and Recreation is free. The lakes at Wentworth are very popular too.
Fishing is a sport that has not appealed to me since I passed the minnow stage, but my father spent a great deal of his life asleep on a river bank. As and when I obtain details of the various fishing clubs I will post them on this site. Rotherham & District Angling Federation seem to be the covering organisation but I have no contact number. Don't forget you need your rod license which can be purchased at the Post Office.

Treeton Dyke Angling Club
They fish on Treeton Dyke. In 2012 an annual ticket cost a whopping £20 & it was another £20 for the key to gate which is returnable upon return of the key. The main species are Tench & Bream but there are a few decent sized carp to just shy of 20lb which will be my target & the pike run to 32lb although you can only fish for these in the winter. There are about 50 swims which you can park your car behind and a few more where you have to utilise your legs. I still haven't found a contact address or number. The advice seems to be ask at Treeton Sports Club.
